Supporting Our Neighbors When Natural Disasters Strike
OSI Announces Donation to Team Rubicon in Support of Disaster Relief Efforts in the Bahamas – 9/5/19
Natural disasters are some of the most surprising and increasingly devastating events that impact our modern world. The recent destruction wrought by Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas is one of the worst examples of a natural disaster in recent memory. The Red Cross says roughly 13,000 houses have been destroyed or damaged and the death toll continues to rise. The New York Times reports, “It’s like a bomb went off” as the “trail of devastation” in the islands has become more clear.
In these troubling times, it is up to the global community, and especially those in neighboring countries like the United States, to support those on the ground and help them cope with the compounding effects of such crises.
To that end, Ornstein-Schuler announced today that it is making a $10,000 donation to Team Rubicon, a disaster relief organization that mobilizes veterans and enables them to leverage their experience to help people respond to and recover from humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
Team Rubicon is deploying its WHO-verified Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 Mobile to Great Abaco Island to help stabilize the situation, provide medical care in hard-to-reach and remote areas, and helping to monitor for and prevent disease outbreaks. Additionally, the organization is dispatching team members to assist with response and recovery including chainsaw operations, flooded home muck-outs, expedient home repairs, roof tarping, debris removal and heavy equipment operations in Great Abaco and Grand Bahama Island.
“The OSI team is proud to support Team Rubicon with its ongoing efforts to assist communities in the Bahamas that are in dire need of help. The manpower and resources that they and other volunteer organizations are deploying will make a measurable difference in assisting the people of the Bahamas recover. All of us need to do our part to help our friends and neighbors when disasters strike and we encourage everyone to help support charitable organizations like Team Rubicon,” said Ornstein-Schuler CEO Matt Ornstein.
Jake Wood, Co-Founder and CEO of Team Rubicon said, “The generous donations by Ornstein-Schuler and others are going directly towards assisting our team members on the ground in the Bahamas that will be tirelessly working on recovery efforts and will assist in helping impacted communities stabilize, recover and get on the road to rebuilding. Hurricane Dorian was one of the strongest hurricanes to ever cross the Bahamas and support from all Americans will make headway in getting these communities back on their feet.”
